Do you know what lies at the root of emotionally driven behaviours like eating when overwhelmed?

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲. 😩

When our vagal braking system is not working well & our Nervous System is not regulated, we can enter the freeze response & the body reaches for coping mechanisms to bring it back into regulation. This happens quickly! And usually unconsciously. Our body wants a sense of equilibrium & a feeling of safety rather than ‘I’m not okay and I don’t know what to do’.

In relation to a coping mechanism like emotional eating, the problem is, this can develop into an unhealthy relationship with food, leading to excess weight we can’t shake, as well as health issues as a result. Often the guilt and shame of what we just did (eg; ate a whole bag of chips!) that we feel afterwards. Often we just try harder to break our emotional eating habits without dealing with the CAUSE (trigger/trauma) and what we haven’t understood is that our stored unsafe feelings, trauma, and the wiring of our nervous systems have created the need to use food as a coping mechanism.

It’s time to understand the root cause of emotionally driven habits. It’s time to break the cycle. We are holistic. We need to have a holistic approach. Mind, Body & Energy (emotional & spiritual wellbeing).
